HBV cccDNA and EPIGENETICS RESEARCH METHODOLOGY WORKSHOP

Date/Time
Thursday, 1 June 2017 from 2pm – 4pm

Venue
Seminar Room T11-02, Level 11
National University Health System
Tower Block, 1E Kent Ridge Rooad, Singapore 119228

Background: Targeting HBV cccDNA is the key to achieving a cure for chronic hepatitis B infection. The ideal goal of complete clearance of cccDNA using finite therapy may remain elusive for most patients at this moment, effective, long-term silencing of the cccDNA may be more feasible as an interim goal.

This unique half-day workshop is led by one of the leading international experts in this field, Professor Massimo Levrero, who produced many of the landmark work in this exciting field. He will be generously sharing his experience and insights on a number of key questions:

  1. Why is HBV cccDNA important?
  2. How to measure the quantity of cccDNA and determine its transcription activity? Will PCR methods ever be good enough and are we close to standardizing across the leading labs?
  3. Are the surrogate markers of any good?
  4. How to choose the best model (cell or animal) to study the production and epigenetic control of cccDNA?
  5. What are the common pitfalls in applying standard epigenetic methods to study cccDNA?
  6. What are some of the new approaches to clear or inactive cccDNA?

You are encouraged to present your own work/ideas and get advice from Professor Levrero and other peers working in this area.
